*** The Series ***
"On Yer Bike - Chigley" is a small series of caches around the village of Chigley (AKA East Harting) which is designed to be done by bike (or tricycle as Windy Miller would do it), and as such all hides are close to the roadside and there's no need to abandon your bike to hike off for a find.
Recommended parking is at one of the 2 waypoints below where you can safely unrack your bike.
If you park at the recommended parking then the route is about 4.5km, including a couple of legs out & back and there are no climbs to speak of.
While this is designed to be done by bike it can of course be walked too. If you wanted to drive it then there aren't really many places along the route to pull over and park while hunting so I wouldn't recommend it.
Whether you're cycling, walking or driving you'll find that the roads can be very narrow and while not very busy please exercise due care at all times as we wouldn't want to call out the Trumpton fire brigade to attend any unfortunate accidents.
There are no refrehsments available in Chigley.
If you're feeling energetic then you could couple this series with tours of the other villages in Trumptonshire, namely:
OYB - Camberwick Green : Windy Miller (~7km, circular)
OYB - Chigley : Lord Belborough (~4.5km, circular)
OYB - Trumpton : The Mayor (~9km)
or see Tour de Trumptonshire for all caches in Trumptonshire (~22km as a round trip).
*** The TV show ***
Chigley was a stop motion animated children's TV show produced in 1969, the third of the Trumptonshire trilogy, and was a staple of many children's TV viewing (mine included).
Chigley, near Camberwick Green, Trumptonshire, is the location of Winkstead Hall the home of Lord Belborough who is a Peer of the Realm and the owner/ driver of the Bessie the steam train. Every episode of the show involves using the train to solve some minor logistical problem for various villagers with Lord Belborough and Bracket singing their personal theme "Time flies by when I'm the driver of a train".
Each episode concludes with the 6 O'clock whistle to finish the shift at the biscuit factory and the workers proceed to Lord Belborough's Dutch organ to finish the day with a dance.
Did you watch Chigley as a child? If so tell me about it in your logs!
*** The Character ***
