Welcome to Cache Across Maryland 2025. This is one of the caches placed for the 2025 Cache Across Maryland. Each location was picked specifically to give geocachers a taste of the state and show you its beauty. By combining all ten, you'll be able to see why Maryland is truly "America in Miniature". We hope you enjoy them! You must find a minimum of ten caches prior to the picnic held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 in order to receive a free Maryland Geocaching Society CAM geocoin.

Make note of the code word found inside each cache container. You must enter all the words into an online decoder in order to print a claim form to print and submit to receive your geocoin at the picnic, as well as your CAM certificate. More info on CAM is available HERE.

Dan's Mountain State Park is a public recreation area located nine miles south of Frostburg and to the east of the town of Lonaconing. The state park occupies 482 acres on 16-mile-long Dans Mountain and is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Dans Mountain was named after Daniel Cresap, the son of Thomas Cresap and an early settler of Allegany County who fell from a tree on the mountain while hunting bear cubs. According to the legendary tale, Cresap's hunting companion, the Delaware Indian Nemacolin, found his unconscious body and using a horse and litter dragged him home to safety.

The state park opened in 1952 and was developed in the 1970s. The General Assembly provided over $800,000 from 1973 to 1978 for the planning and construction of the park's swimming pool and other improvements.

In addition to wildlife, mountain steams and scenic overlooks, the park features and Olympic-sized swimming pool with bathhouse, concession stands during warm weather months, and a fishing pond that is stocked annually.

Dan's Rock, the highest point in Allegany County at 2,898 feet, sits about three miles from the park at the northeast edge of Dan's Mountain Wildlife Management Area. It can be accessed from Old Dan's Rock Road in Midland. There is no direct access to Dan's Rock Overlook from Dan's Mountain State Park.

The cache you seek is in the end of a fallen tree, covered by leaves and sticks. Stay on the trail until your GPS shows 70-80 feet. Trust the trail.  Please hide as found or better.
