Welcome to Cache Across Maryland 2025. This is one of the caches placed for the 2025 Cache Across Maryland. Each location was picked specifically to give geocachers a taste of the state and show you its beauty. By combining all ten, you'll be able to see why Maryland is truly "America in Miniature". We hope you enjoy them! You must find a minimum of ten caches prior to the picnic held on Saturday, May 31, 2025 in order to receive a free Maryland Geocaching Society CAM geocoin.
Make note of the code word found inside each cache container. You must enter all the words into an online decoder in order to print a claim form to print and submit to receive your geocoin at the picnic, as well as your CAM certificate. More info on CAM is available HERE.

Six U.S. Presidents, various senators and congressmen, Babe Ruth, Gene Tunney, Amos & Andy, and Richard Mellon are among the many famous and influential guests of Woodmont Lodge.
Several of the stream valleys on the property are underlain with the rock type which forms shale barrens, a unique habitat often harboring rare plant or insect life.
Several of the stones used in the fireplaces came from historical sites and people. One of the stones came from the stone walls of Fort Frederick while another was a surveyor’s stone used by George Washington.
There are several open house dates for Woodmont Lodge. For 2025, this schedule can be found HERE.

Wildlife Heritage Trail
The Wildlife Heritage Trail is a four mile trail system in a figure eight design. The North loop traverses the rolling Woodmont landscape and includes a peaceful stream crossing. On the South loop users can amble through a mature oak forest before crossing into an early succession growth area great for berry picking. The Wildlife Heritage Trail is open to hikers, mountain bikers, birders and hunters. Note: This trail is not open for equestrian traffic.
Purple Blaze Trail/Woodmont & Sideling Hill
This trail is a moderate to difficult 5.1 mile trail with a 550 foot change in elevation that follows one of the many roads that provided access to the different areas of Woodmont for logging and hunting.
Two Trail Heads
One is at the Hunter’s Parking Lot off of Woodmont Road. The second is at the Woodmont/Sideling Hill Lot off of Riser Road atop Sideling Hill.
This trail is open to hikers, mountain bikers, birders, equestrian travel, and hunters.
Unmarked Roads
There are miles of unmarked fire roads spanning nearly the entire Woodmont property. These roads allow nature enthusiasts the opportunity to explore the various natural, scenic and historical features that Woodmont NRMA has to offer.
When travelling these roads, please be aware of the Limited Use Parcel, marked by yellow signs. This area is only open to the public from April 1 to September 30 each year.
Now, for the cache. From the parking lot, walk toward the South loop to get the path for the connector trail. Coordinates listed. Then head to the (posted) coordinates to the cache container. Can you guess correctly? Please do NOT share this information. Please let others "choose" their own journey. Stay on the trail. Trust your GPS. Please replace all containers as found or better. Please cover them well.
