Geocache Description:

This cache is NOT at the listed coordinates. You will need to first solve the puzzle to get the 3 sets of six-digit numbers for the Reverse Wherigo cartridge.

The Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway is a scenic 12-mile-long trail in Westchester County, New York, stretching from Ossining to the Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill. This unpaved trailway offers a serene escape into nature, winding through forests, wetlands, and rolling hills while providing breathtaking views of the Hudson Valley.

Originally acquired in 1929 for a proposed parkway, the land was repurposed into a recreational trailway in 1977. Since then, it has become a favorite destination for hikers and nature enthusiasts looking for a quiet, wooded trail that highlights the beauty of the region. The path traverses diverse landscapes, from dense woodlands to open meadows, and passes several points of interest, including Croton Gorge Park, where visitors can admire a picturesque waterfall and the impressive Croton Dam.

One of the most notable vantage points along the trail is the summit of Spitzenberg Mountain in Blue Mountain Reservation, standing at approximately 560 feet. This high point offers sweeping views of the Hudson River and surrounding countryside, making it a rewarding destination for those willing to tackle the ascent. The trail also passes through Teatown Lake Reservation, a well-known nature preserve that features diverse wildlife, educational programs, and a beautiful lake.

Access points with parking can be found at several locations along the trail, including Blue Mountain Reservation, Charles Cook Park, and Teatown Lake Reservation. The trail is primarily used for hiking, as bicycles are not permitted. While much of the path is well-shaded and moderate in difficulty, some sections feature elevation changes and rocky terrain, making sturdy footwear recommended.

With its peaceful environment and stunning natural features, the Briarcliff-Peekskill Trailway is an excellent choice for hikers seeking a tranquil yet rewarding outdoor experience in Westchester County.
