In May 2003 Hob Moor was designated as a Statutory Local Nature Reserve in recognition of its important expanse of wildflowers-rich meadows. Unimproved grassland without the addition of fertilisers has maintained a diverse sward while old hedges can be found at the borders. Cattle are grazed on here between May and October, and are beneficial for the native wild flowers.
