Welcome to La Gomera, the “island of reservoirs”! This viewpoint offers you an impressive view at the Chejelipes dam, one of the island's water reservoirs. Despite its small size, La Gomera has an extraordinary density of dams and water reservoirs, which secure the valuable water for agriculture and inhabitants.
The island has 39 water reservoirs - divided into dams and artificial lakes. The most important are Amalhuigue (930.000 cubic meters capacity), Mulagua (800.000 cubic meters) and La Encantadora (750.000 cubic meters). Two thirds of the reservoirs are public and are used to supply water in a region with low rainfall.
Due to its special location and interaction with the trade winds, La Gomera collects a lot of water in its deep ravines and stores it in aquifers - a clever natural way to keep the island green.
