Hermigua is romantically nestled between high mountain ranges and is known for its particularly mild climate. The valley of Hermigua, also known as the ‘valley of banana plantations’, is characterised by lush vegetation and fertile soils, which have been ideal for banana cultivation since the 19th century. The Barranco de Monteforte, a mountain valley through which a stream flows, plays a central role in the irrigation of the plantations and ensures that the banana plants can thrive all year round. The region is famous for its aromatic ‘Gomera bananas’, which grow excellently in the sheltered valleys. The mild climate, the steep mountain slopes and the natural beauty of the valley provide a breathtaking backdrop, making Hermigua not only a paradise for nature lovers, but also an important agricultural centre on La Gomera.
