Geocache Description:

COOL  WATER

All day I've faced the barren waste

With out the taste of water...

cool, water

Ole Dan and I, with throats burned dry

And souls that cry

For water...

cool, clear water

The nights are cool and I'm a fool

Each star's a pool of water...

cool, clear water

And with the dawn I'll wake and yawn

And carry on

To water...

cool, clear water

Dan's feet are sore he's yearnin' for

Just one thing more than water....

cool, clear water

Like me I guess he'd like to rest

Where there's no quest

For water...

cool, clear water

Walking around the Arizona desert searching for an elusive cache I was reminded of this song from my youth., the story of a man talking to his mule, encouraging it to “carry on”.

Bob Nolan, co-creator of The Sons of the Pioneers wrote this song, COOL WATER, in 1936.  It was first recorded by The Sons of the Pioneers in 1941 for Decca Records.  The most success came in 1948 when Vaughn Monroe and The Sons of Pioneers recorded it. It was the best-selling record in that year.

Versions of this song have been recorded by a variety of artists over the years including Hank Williams, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, Marty Robbins, and Willie Nelson, and as well as Buster Scruggs in the movie “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs.

One can listen to the song and/or find the complete lyrics on line.

PLEASE do not try to remove the cache from the host. Use an appropriate TOTT.

The road is in pretty good condition for a desert track. Conditions could worsen after it rains. This could be a problem for the family car. Use your best judgement.

Be aware of the usual suspects in the desert; things that bite, sting, scratch, poke, etc.  Uneven ground can make secure footing a concern. Step carefully. Always a good idea to bring some water along (see above).

The cache is on Arizona State Land Trust property and geocachers must purchase a recreation permit which is available on the Arizona State Land Department's website http://asld.secure.force.com/recreationalpermit.
