Purple Heart Recipient - Ingwald Frogner Gordon
Date of Incident: 2/29/1944
WWII
Petty Officer Third Class
USS Trout (SS-202) was the fifth Tambor-class submarine commissioned in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific from 1941 to 1944.
The USS Trout began her 11th war patrol on 2/8/1944. She was enroute to the China Sea. On 2/29, a Japanese convoy was attacked in the area assigned to SS trout and one ship was sunk and another severely damaged. The Trout was never heard from again.
Radioman third class Frogner was reported as Missing in Action and later declared dead.
This is a sad story. But The Purple Heart he received posthumously was in recognition of his service.
In February 2025, Geocaching.com suggested we hide a cache with a frog theme. This meets that goal.
If any of my caches need attention; please let me know. I'll sort it out as soon as possible. Bring your own pen.
