Geocache Description:

ENGLISH

This is the public housing area Brønspark or Hegnshusene (the fence-houses)as it is popularly called.
The area consists of 196 terraced houses built in 1940-41. They are partly protected and were designed by architects Kay Fisker, C. F. Møller and Erik Jensen.

The houses of 93 square meters were large by the standards of the time and the authorities decided that the houses should only be for families with at least 4 children. In 1948, approximately 1,200-1,400 children therefore lived in the Hegnshusene - on an area of approximately 200 x 100 metres.
The house owners in the surrounding area were unhappy with the many children in the area and there were many complaints to the housing department. For example, a villa owner wanted a double fence established in an attempt to keep the children inside the area. The case ended up in the Supreme Court and this resulted in an extended duty to fence. Towards Borrebyvej, a double fence was established - 3 meters high with 3 meters in between. It was then only possible to access the area from Brønshøjvej. This is where Hegnhusene (the fence houses) got its name.
Although the double fence was torn down in 1995, there are still high fences towards the area at the end of the roads thowards the area. In addition to the official entrance from Brønshøjvej, there is now also a path along the public playground on Fuglsang Allé.
