Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Railway City....St. Thomas, Ontario.  If you are a railway buff, this town is for you!  It is one of the many fabulous places geocaching has taken us all over the last 25 years.

With that in mind, let's celebrate 25 years of Geocaching...join us in beautiful Pinafore Park; 95 Elm Street, St.Thomas, Ontario.

Pinafore Park was first developed by the St. Thomas Street Railway Company in the later years of the 19th century.  It was hoped that a recreational feature would encourage passenger traffic on the newly electrified railway.  Many changes have taken place since 1863, yet Pinafore Park still remains a unique spot for recreation and pleasure with something to offer everyone.  Century-old pavilions nestled among towering trees provide an ideal setting for picnics. In addition to its beauty and accessible layout, Pinafore Park boasts a small lake, the Rotary Splashpad, accessible playground equipment, and the magnificent Morris F Jones Memorial Bandshell for the music lover.

This park is only one of the great stops you'll find in St.Thomas.  The city has 70+ murals all over town, is home to the Elgin County Railway Museum, The CASO Railway Station (Canada Southern Ontario Railway Station), the Jumbo the Elephant Memorial, Canada's First Elevated Parkway (a converted bridge previously known as the Michigan Central Railroad Bridge), along with various large and small metal sculptures celebrating the city's railway history.

These attributes alone make St Thomas a great place to visit and relax, but we've added a Geocaching Event (or two) for your entertainment.  Whether you are coming from near or far, join us in kicking off the first long weekend of the summer season by meeting new and old geocaching friends today, or tomorrow at the largest Geocaching Event in the area this spring...GCAQ5K5...In The Year 2025.

You can find us near the Lakeside Pavillion where there are some picnic tables; feel free to bring your own lawn chairs and/or blankets, in the event we need more seating.

Let's get this party started!!  Oh, yeah...a little birdie told me there might be prizes, new caches, and new Adventure Labs...in case you needed additional incentive.

Hoping to see you then!
