For a brief spell, Persimmon Pesky thought about maybe becoming a vet, even though her mother kept saying, "People are animals, too, Persimmon." She decided to take Animal Husbandry to explore the idea a little.
She was assigned a piglet to parent and named it "Pippa." Determined to keep the little thing alive, she fed and watered her twice a day, before and after all of her other classes. Sometimes this was extremely inconvenient, especially when her classes took her to other campuses. Sometimes she even brought Pippa choice tidbits, which she smuggled out of the dining hall. She kept Pippa's stall tidy and watered Pippa down with a hose sometimes.
As Pippa grew up, Persimmon had to train her to run in a circle around the pen. This took quite a bit of convincing.
Sometimes she could not stand the smell of her boots and piglet-contaminated clothes a second more. She tried perfuming her boots with air fresheners, perfume, even keurig coffee pods, but in the end just left them out in the hallway wrapped in garbage bags.
Sometimes Pippa bit her toes and sometimes Pippa butted into her. As Pippa grew older it was not as cute to have her step on her toes as it was when she was tiny. Sometimes Persimmon was quite bruised up.
Eventually Persimmon had to present Pippa in a competition with the other piglets and show her off to the community visitors on campus at the yearly agricultural day. Persimmon and Pippa did such a good job together, that they took home the blue ribbon! Persimmon was never as proud of her Pippa Piglet!
