Geocache Description:

In honour of the WW1 soldiers named on the Keyworth Memorial on Nottingham Road - the 3 new housing estates Keyworth Rise, Nicker Hill and Spinners Croft all take their street names from the soldiers who gave thier lives in World War One.  These caches are placed in honour of their memories - they are all local to Keyworth in some way.  Many of these families were long established in the small community of Keyworth (787 total population made up of  372 males and 415 female - as in 1911 census summary books).

Edward Sargison Wesson born in April 1893 at Keyworth the son of James Sargison Wesson & Sarah Jane (nee Disney) who were married  at St Andrews Church, Nottingham in 1881.  James Sargison Wesson was born in 1847 in Holwell, Leicestershire and Sarah Jane Disney was born in 1861 at Keyworth. They had 7 children ( 2 died in infancy or early childhood). In 1881 James was a Tailor in the Keyworth village and his elderly parents lived with him.

Edward's siblings were Jane, Stella, William James and Lois.  His Fathers parents were John & Rebecca Wesson (nee Sargisson).  His Mothers parents were William & Sarah Disney (nee Barlow).

In the census of Keyworth 1891 James & Sarah were living on Old Lane (now Elm Ave) off Selby Lane & 1901 (aged 8) Edward was with them.  By 1911 Edward  (aged 18)  was living with his mother Sarah, now a widow at 59 Carnarvon Street, Netherfield - where the family remained for many years.

Edward Sargison Wesson  Private 28804 8th Battalion East Yorkshire Regiment (Duke of York's Own) attested at Nottingham on 24th August 1916, giving his age as 23 yrs and 169 days. He was a tailors cutter and lived at 59 Carnarvon Street, Netherfield.  He was mobilised for war on 12th December 1916 and landed in France on 28th February 1917. He was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 aged 24.  He was awarded The Victory Medal and the British War Medal.

Wesson Street  is named in his honour at the housing estate at Keyworth Rise off Bunny Lane.

The Cache  -  This is a straight forward cache placed near to where the cottages on Elm Ave (Old Lane) would have continued.
