This is the bonus cache to Terminal Island Japanese Fishing Village Memorial. The coordinates are listed in the journals of the labs.
In the late 1800s a group of Japanese men who worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad moved to San Pedro to dive for abalone. After a law in 1905 prohibited them from fishing for abalone they moved to Terminal Island to fish for tuna. By 1907, there was a flourishing Japanese-American fishing village on Terminal Island.
By 1941, 3,000 first and second-generation Japanese-Americans made their homes in this area of Terminal Island known as East San Pedro.
In 2002, the surviving second-generation citizens set up a memorial on Terminal Island to honor their parents and to preserve the memory of their Furusato, their “Home Sweet Home”.
In 2018, the Terminal Islanders placed a time capsule under the fishermen statue that will be opened on February 27, 2042.
