Located just down the road from Colaiste Uisce, Trá Oiligh, or Elly Bay beach is a blue flag beach on the east side of the thinnest part of the Mullet peninsula in the Erris gaeltacht. This is a popular tourist spot for its clean waters, golden sand and shallow, calm tide. Every summer holiday makers and students to the local gaelcolaiste flock here to enjoy a walk, a dip in the tide or to sit and watch the dolphins that occasionally make their way into the bay.
There is a stone picnic bench here year round and portaloo toilets are available during the summer months only.
This beach is part of the Wild Atlantic Way and in my opinion deserves more recognition as a scenic tourist draw, therefore I have decided to plant a cache here.
The cache is a small tube with a dollar inside for the first to find. Bring your own pen and perhaps a tweezers as the log sheet can get lodged inside the tube.
