A little Tradi for those interested in art that goes well with the multi Muse: Art Design.
Whether you like them or not, Philippe Starck's projects rarely leave you indifferent. A glimpse of his work is available on the Centre Pompidou website.
Personally, my first contact with a Philippe Starck design was with the Olympic cauldron and torchbearer for the Alberville winter games in 1992, followed by the Freebox revolution.
The French designer is renowned the world over, having designed iconic buildings such as the Asahi Beer Hall in Tokyo and the Alhóndiga in Bilbao.
In Metz, he left a significant mark with the lampposts at the station, known as the ‘Réverbères Tournesol’. Installed in 1995, these lampposts stand out for their atypical design, with their heads tilting one hour before nightfall and rising again during the day, evoking sunflowers, and now we turn to the hotel ‘Maison Heler’.
Maison Heler is a **** hotel where work began in 2018, and where the many delays have fuelled criticism. The hotel opened finally the 27th of March 2025. In addition to the many innovations invisible from the outside, the roof is remarkable for the presence of a traditional ‘Lorraine house’ housing a restaurant.
The purpose of this cache is to introduce you to Philippe Starck's latest project in Metz. A project which, like the candelabras, will probably not leave you indifferent... it's up to you to log what you thought of it!
