This geocache is one of three recent additions placed along the Yellow Trail. Proceeding down the left or right trailhead from the parking lot, you will be starting out on the White Trail. After a short distance the trail splits, and this is where you will pick up the Yellow Trail. The GZ is located approximately halfway around the Yellow Trail Loop. Choosing the right trailhead would be a little shorter of a hike to the GZ. The GZ will be on the upslope side of the trail. The complete Yellow Trail Loop is only 2.7 miles long on a well maintained trail. It would be most appreciated that you ensure the lid is properly sealed on the container and replace the container as found. Make sure the lid is on tight. This Yellow Trail will take you along some of the deep excavations from the past quartz quarry sites.
Cache contains a small special item for the First To Find. Take the item and please communicate a "thumbs up" or a "thumbs down".
Good Luck and enjoy the scenery, but most of all HAVE FUN!
Happy Trails,
MM
Palmer State Park Trail Map

The trail map provides a brief description of the Park’s 3 trails in addition to the area layout.
There are remnants still visible today down by Deer Creek along the Red Trail.
Husband Flint Mill
Originally built in the late 1800s by Joshua Husband, this historic mill was purchased by George J. Kroeger and rebuilt in 1909. The mill ground quartz, mined from quarries in the surrounding hills, for use in porcelain dishes and pottery. Before being dismantled in the 1920s, the mill was one of the best-equipped mills in the state of Maryland. Two kilns, a chimney, and part of the mill office are still visible today.
Deer Creek Iron Works
The forge was built in the middle 1800s and became a thriving community center with a general store and gristmill until the iron works ceased operations in 1878. The old foundation and covered bridge abutments are still visible today.
