Legend has it, that In the heart of Hillrise Park, hidden between twisted oaks and moss-covered stones, lies an ancient rock formation known as the Moon Gate. Locals whisper that it is no ordinary pile of stones—it is an ancient portal, but only under the right conditions.
Once a month, when the full moon rises high, the air around the Moon Gate shimmers like candlelight on a window sill, humming with a faint, crackling whisper—like distant static or the flutter of unseen wings. And if you stand too close, you might hear whispers in a language you don’t understand.
But the real omen is the bird.
A single, ghostly-white bird, unlike any known species, nests near the rocks, laying smooth black eggs in the tangled roots of a dead tree. No one has ever seen the eggs hatch, and no one dares touch them. According to legend, if someone breaks an egg before the full moon, the portal stays closed. But if the eggs remain untouched, something—or someone—steps through.
People claim to have seen figures emerge—shadowy, tall, and not quite human. Sometimes, the figures vanish by dawn. Other times, people do. In 1973, a local teenager named Daniel Graves was last seen near the portal during a full moon. His footprints led up to the rocks, but none led away. At the mouth of rocky entrance all that was left was a map of sort or is it a key?
Since then, the town has learned to leave the eggs alone. And when the full moon rises, most people stay far, far away from the Moon Gate.
