The 1920s saw a huge growth in the population of Sherwood, as post-WW1 estates were developed in the area. Although there was no established church in Sherwood at that time, the non-conformists were well represented. The Congregational Church met in an old house on Edwards Lane, but in the 1930s they launched a fund to build a new church – and this is it. The foundation stone was laid in February 1939, and the church was ready a few days after the outbreak of WW2.

In 1972, the United Reformed Church was created, throughout the country, by the amalgamation of the Congregational Church and the English Presbyterian Church.
The original house, used before the church was built, is still in use by the URC.
The coordinates for the first stage of this multicache take you to the front of the old house at the side of the church. To the right of the door you will see a sign, with white writing on a blue background.
