Geocache Description:

You’ve located another stop in this set of geocaches that are part of the Visit Abilene Kansas Geotour, find them all, complete your passport and earn your trackable Geocoin.

The best way to discover a community’s past is in their local cemetery. The Abilene Cemetery, established in 1865, is home to several notable figures from the city's past, many of whom played a significant role in the American Old West, early law enforcement, and local history.  The cemetery serves as a history book, with each grave telling the story of someone who contributed to the development of this historic Kansas town, with ‘residents’ ranging from early settlers, veterans from the Civil War, even President Eisnehower's parents, David Jacob and Ida Stover Eisenhower.

The Abilene Cemetery is an active burial site, so be respectful while visiting. It’s a peaceful place that reflects both history and reverence.
