Great Alne is a small village in Warwickshire that is listed in the Domesday Book. The parish of Great Alne stretches from the north bank of the River Alne up to the top of the ridge, known as the Alne Hills, which divides the valleys of the Alne and the Arrow. The name comes from the river Alne that runs through the village. There used to be a railway station, as the old Bearley to Alcester line ran through the village, but when this was closed the station became a private house. Part of the village is a Conservation area and there are several listed buildings. There is a parish church, memorial hall, village pub and cricket club in the village.
This series of caches features the Great Alne signs on the roads that enter the village from North, South and West. Sadly I couldn't include the East route via Henley Road due to the proximity of existing geocaches. Most of the routes have wooden Great Alne signs as you enter the village, but this one doesn't. The cache is at the Pelham Lane bridge over the River Alne. This bridge is much-loved by my grandsons as a great Poohsticks bridge. Many a summer afternoon has been spent here, playing Poohsticks and watching the ducks and swans on the river.
