Spring CITO at Again Street Park & West Blvd School Grounds
April 12, 2025 from 10 am - 12 pm
This is organized in conjuction with the City of Columbia Volunteer Program Cleanup Columbia!. Thank you to Jody, Kylie, Leigh and Lindsey with Cleanup Columbia who helped to organize this project.
The cleanup will be at Again Street Park & West Blvd School Grounds with areas of concentration around shelters, playgrounds, fields, tree and bush lines, ditches, and parking lots. There is a detailed map below and attached in the gallery. There are detailed instructions attached in the gallery, but we will go over the all must knows at 10 am. All are welcome for whatever amount of time you are able to help out!
There will be a raffle for a CITO geocoin and two CITO trackables!
Time: 10 am - 12 pm
Parking: The coordinates for the cache are for the parking area along Again Street where we will meet prior to the pickup.
What is supplied by the city: bags, gloves
What I will bring: hand sanitizer
What you may want to bring: possibly your own gloves, boots, trash picker, sunscreen, bug spray, water
On-site facilities: There are NO RESTROOMS at this site so plan accordingly.
Wheelchair accessible? There are many cement paths throughout the park that are accessible.
Safety Awareness and Precautions via Volunteer Columbia (complete instructions from Volunteer Columbia are attached in the gallery):
- Volunteers are responsible for their own safety. We will review safety measures prior to work.
- Wear clothes and shoes that are appropriate for your work area and the weather. Wear light colored, long-sleeve clothing and a hat.
- Do not remove any hazardous substances. When in doubt, let me (prowngirl229) know and I will contact the Volunteer Program.
- Sharp objects including glass should be put inside of another container first before putting it in a trash bag.
- Park in legal parking spaces and don't obstruct traffic.
- There should be a 1-5 adult-child ratio and children should be in sight at all times.
- We will stop work if there is bad weather.
- Volunteers are required to wear gloves and avoid touching their face and phones during service.
- Be respectful of park users. If shelters are rented, please avoid them.
- Areas of concentration: around shelters, playgrounds, fields, tree and bush lines, ditches, and parking lots
- Use caution when walking on slopes and be alert for holes, obstacles, and snakes.
- Stay clear of construction projects.
- Those working along roads around park should walk against oncoming traffic.
- Ear buds and headphones are prohibited for anyone working along roads. Stay alert!
- If you come across what appear to be someone's personal belongings, please leave them there.
- Stay hydrated. Bring water with you.
- Use hand sanitizer after the service. Upon returning home, wash hands thoroughly, change and wash clothing worn during the event.
