Goin' to Gatlinburg? Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

The Seanachai: Greetings from Geocaching.com,

It saddens me to have to archive this listing, but once a cache has been disabled it requires some action from the owner in order to show that that cache has not been abandoned. While we feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you for a reasonable amount of time, we cannot do so indefinitely. In light of the lack of communication regarding this cache it has been archived to free up the area for new placements. If you are in the process of replacing or repairing your cache please e-mail me in response to this archival and, if possible, I will unarchive your cache.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute in the past and I am looking forward to your continued contributions to the sport of Geocaching.

Geocache Description:

Gatlinburg's first physical geocache
One of the most-found caches in the USA!

This cache is hidden in a small park in the heart of the city. You will walk across a nice footbridge into the park, cross a grassy area, then locate the cache at the base of the hillside.
No steep climbing is required to locate this cache!
Be prepared to do some shopping, eating, and beverage tasting - there will be plenty of businesses around you. To find the closest parking lot (which might be pay-to-park during busy times) and a cache spoiler, read the encrypted hints below.

GPS reception can be extremely tricky in this location due to heavy tree cover, surrounding ridges and structures. Your GPS may not zero out at the cache site. Please refer to the hint if you have difficulty.

Bears are occasionally spotted in this small park. While you may find this hard to believe, I have seen one there with my own eyes. You are in the mountains and the bears go wherever they like! So keep that in mind when you search.

Cache container is a camo-covered rubbermaid box and has room for trade items and travel bugs. Please cover the cache well and carefully after you find it. Being discreet while caching is always a good thing, please make an effort not to draw too much attention.

IF YOU PICK UP OR DROP OFF A TRAVEL BUG IN THIS CACHE, REMEMBER TO LOG IT ONLINE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! Forgetting to log in a timely manner causes disappointment and confusion for fellow cachers. Because this cache is so often visited, there is a high turnover rate of bugs and unfortunately disappearances are common. Help keep track of travel bugs!
