Suzhou Creek (苏州河, or Soochow Creek), aka Wusong River, is a river that passes through the Shanghai city center. It is named after the neighboring city of Suzhou (Soochow). One of the principal outlets of Lake Tai, the Suzhou Creek is 125km long and flows into the Huangpu River at the Bund. The Suzhou Creek Waterfront Public Space (苏州河滨水公共空间) project was basically completed by the end of 2020. After renovation, the 42km shoreline along the Suzhou Creek in the central urban area has been opened to the public, providing space for public activities such as sightseeing, cultural communication, sports and fitness, leisure and entertainment.
The Suzhou Creek makes a sharp turn near East China University of Political Science and Law (ECUPL), forming a distinctive V-shaped bay. This geographical feature gives the ECUPL campus the appearance of a wedge-shaped peninsula, embraced by the Suzhou Creek in a V-shape. The predecessor of ECUPL was St. John's University, which was established over 140 years ago. The campus contains 27 historically significant buildings that blend Chinese and Western architectural styles, and these were designated as the eighth batch of National Key Cultural Relics Protection Units by the State Council.
The GZ is opposite the ECUPL campus on the other bank of the Suzhou Creek. You can view the overall picture of ECUPL across the river from the GZ. There are two small bridges at the GZ. The magnetic cache (a 5cm tube) is attached under the top railings of the bridge.
