Geocache Description:

The Rover was a schooner used to transport convicts from place to place. On this assignment, it was transporting 11 convicts to Gabo island to build a lighthouse. It also carried the captaion, 8 crew and 3 soldiers. However, the Rover was wrecked here in Broulee Bay in October 1841. Captain Florence had anchored his 120 ton steamer in an exposed spot, against the advice of local whalers. 11 people were saved, but the rest, including the captain perished.

The rescuers included local aborigines, who were later awarded engraved breastplates. One of these breastplates can be found in the National museum.

The cache can be found at:
S 35° 50.ABC′ E 150° 10.DEF′
where:
A = number of aboriginals that received particular tribute + 1,
B = number of bodies recovered,
C = number of seamen on board,
D = number of prisoners - 3,
E = number of soldiers on board,
F = number of lives lost - 5,
