The Wizarding World Geocache Series
"Upon the signature of the International Statute of Secrecy in 1689, wizards went into hiding for good. It was natural, perhaps, that they formed their own small communities within a community."
— The secrecy surrounding the wizarding world
The Wizarding World, also referred to as the magical community, is the society in which wizards and witches live and interact, separate from non-wizarding society. The two communities are kept separate through the use of charms, spells, and secrecy. Wizards and witches are forbidden to reveal anything about magic to Muggle society due to the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, but that does not mean that the two worlds live entirely apart.
Welcome to the Ministry of Magic
Located on Level Nine of the Ministry of Magic, the Department of Mysteries is a secretive, heavily secured, and forbidden area that is staffed by wizards and witches known as Unspeakables, because the nature of their work is strictly confidential.
The department is accessed via a plain black door at the end of a corridor. Inside is a circular room with a floor that looks like stagnant water. After the door is closed, the wall rotate rapidly so that visitors lose their bearings and cannot tell which door they originally entered. To leave, a visitor must ask the room to let them out, or the room responds to the intent of the person.
The known rooms of the Department are each dedicated to a specific, fundamental force of the universe.
The Hall of Prophecy: A cavernous room as large as a cathedral, filled with towering shelves of glass orbs. These orbs contain records of prophecies. Only the subjects of a prophecy can legally remove it from the shelf.
The Death Chamber: A large, dimly lit stone pit containing a raised stone dais. On the dais stands an ancient, crumbling stone archway with a tattered black veil hanging from it. Those who have experienced death can hear voices whispering from behind the veil.
The Time Room: Filled with clocks of every description and beautiful, dancing light. The Bell Jar contains a sparkling crystal jar where a tiny bird hatches, lives, and dies in an endless loop. The Ministry’s entire stock of Time-Turners are kept here.
The Brain Room: A long room containing a deep tank of dark green liquid. Inside, pearly white brains float. When summoned, these brains sprout long, invisible tentacles of thought that can wrap around and seriously injure a person.
The Space Room: A dark room where models of planets float in mid-air, allowing Unspeakables to study the mysteries of the cosmos.
The Ever-Locked Room (The Love Room): A door that remains "always locked" and cannot be opened by the Unlocking Charm (Alohomora) or magical unlocking knives. It has been explained that this room contains a force more wonderful and terrible than death or intelligence: Love.
