The Wizarding World Geocache Series
"Upon the signature of the International Statute of Secrecy in 1689, wizards went into hiding for good. It was natural, perhaps, that they formed their own small communities within a community."
— The secrecy surrounding the wizarding world
The Wizarding World, also referred to as the magical community, is the society in which wizards and witches live and interact, separate from non-wizarding society. The two communities are kept separate through the use of charms, spells, and secrecy. Wizards and witches are forbidden to reveal anything about magic to Muggle society due to the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, but that does not mean that the two worlds live entirely apart.
Welcome to Hogwarts School and Witchcraft and Wizardry and Surrounding Grounds
"Craning his neck sideways, he realised that they had reached the ridge of a vast hollow, a hollow that had been cleared of trees, so that the stars shone brightly on the worst scene he had ever laid eyes on.... Spiders the size of carthorses, eight-eyed, eight-legged, black, hairy, gigantic. The massive specimen... made its way down the steep slope towards a misty, domed web in the very centre of the hollow, while its fellows closed in all around it, clicking their pincers excitedly at the sight of its load."
- Description of the Spider colony
Aragog’s Lair is located deep within the Forbidden Forest, far past the paths used by Hagrid or the centaurs. It is the home of Aragog after he was forced to leave Hogwarts Castle. The lair is a vast, wide-cocked depression in the ground, cleared of trees but enclosed by a dense canopy that blocks out the moonlight. The entire area is draped in thick, white, dome-shaped webs that resemble tents. The ground is covered in a carpet of dead leaves and the bleached bones of animals; it is the heart of the Acromantula colony. Hundreds of "man-eating" spiders, some as large as cart-horses, with eight eyes and razor-sharp pincers. They are fiercely loyal to Aragog but have no loyalty to Hagrid and consider all humans who enter the Hollow as prey.
