La cache fa parte della serie Produzioni ininterrotte, progetto di valorizzazione della memoria del lavoro che vi porterà ad immaginare storie del territorio bergamasco ormai scomparse (o quasi) che hanno lasciato delle tracce nascoste.
Percorrendo la strada provinciale della val Seriana, nei pressi del Ponte del Costone, potete facilmente imbattervi in due edifici quasi identici tra loro, uno a destra e uno a sinistra del fiume Serio.
Cosa mai saranno?
Alcuni particolari suggeriscono una ricercatezza insolita nella costruzione: sono simili a due casette, hanno grandi finestroni ad arco, caratterizzati da vetri incorniciati, e una piccola finestra circolare proprio sotto il tetto.
Gli indizi per capire cosa siano questi edifici sono gli enormi tubi accanto a uno, e le enormi turbine visibili nel cortile dell’altro: ci fanno intuire che siamo davanti a una centrale idroelettrica, una delle tante presenti lungo il corso del fiume Serio e in particolare per quanto concerne questa, nel territorio di Casnigo.
L’epoca di costruzione di questa centrale è quella successiva alla Prima Guerra Mondiale, nel 1920 circa, quando soprattutto per iniziativa degli industriali tessili della zona furono realizzate varie opere simili in tutta l’Alta val Seriana.
Sfruttando il dislivello e la forza di caduta dell’acqua, queste centrali erano necessarie per la produzione di energia, indispensabile per le aziende del territorio.
All’interno dell’edificio con il cortile sono ora in funzione delle turbine nuove , ma accanto a loro è collocata una turbina originale dell’epoca di costruzione, ormai in disuso come quelle collocate nel cortile: rimangono a testimoniare l’importanza di queste opere, che hanno contribuito in maniera decisiva allo sviluppo di questa valle e sono in gran parte ancora funzionanti, come questa.
Siate dunque pronti ad alzare il velo di mistero che aleggia sulla storia di Bergamo e della sua provincia. Felice caccia e che la fortuna possa essere sempre a vostro favore.

The cache is part of the Uninterrupted Productions series, a project to enhance the memory of work that will lead you to imagine stories of the Bergamo area that have now disappeared (or almost) and have left hidden traces.
Driving along the provincial road of Val Seriana, near a bridge named Costone, you can easily come across two almost identical buildings, one on the right and one on the left of Serio river.
What will they ever be?
Some details suggest an unusual refinement in the construction: they resemble two small houses, they have large arched windows, with framed glass, and a small circular window just under the roof.
If you want to guess what these buildings are, the clues are the enormous pipes next to one of them, and the enormous turbines visible in the courtyard of the other one: they let us understand that we are looking at a hydroelectric power station, one of the many along the course of the Serio river and, in this case, in the Casnigo area.
This power plant was built after the First World War, around the 1920, when many similar structures were built throughout the Upper Seriana Valley, mainly thanks to the intervention of the textile entrepreneurs of the area.
By exploiting the difference in height and the force of the water's fall, these power plants were necessary for the production of energy, essential for local companies.
Inside the building with the courtyard, new turbines are now in operation, but next to them there is an original turbine aged the same time of construction, now disused like those located in the courtyard: they remain to testify the importance of these works, which contributed decisively to the development of this valley and are largely still functioning, like this one.
