Το μοναστήρι είναι ένα υπέροχο μέρος που πρέπει να επισκεφτείτε. Βρίσκεται σε ένα μικρό νησάκι μέσα στη λιμνοθάλασσα της λίμνης Βιστωνίδη.
Σύμφωνα με έναν παλιό μύθο, οι ψαράδες μπήκαν σε μια καταιγίδα. Το σκάφος τους ανατράπηκε. Ζήτησαν βοήθεια από τον Άγιο Νικόλαο. Άκουσε τις προσευχές τους και τους έσωσε. Σε ένδειξη ευγνωμοσύνης, οι ψαράδες έχτισαν μια εκκλησία. Ωστόσο, όχι στην ακτή, όπως θα περίμενε κανείς, αλλά ακριβώς εκεί που βυθίστηκε το σκάφος τους. Για το σκοπό αυτό έχτισαν ένα μικρό τεχνητό νησί και έχτισαν πάνω του ένα ναό. Το αφιέρωσαν στον Άγιο Νικόλαο. Με τον καιρό ο ναός ερήμωσε, αλλά ήρθαν μοναχοί από την αγιορείτικη μονή Βατοπεδίου, αναστήλωσαν το ναό, επέκτειναν το νησί και έτσι γεννήθηκε ένα μικρό μοναστήρι, που είναι μοναστήρι της αγιορείτικης μονής Βατοπεδίου.
Αργότερα έχτισαν ένα δεύτερο νησί και έχτισαν πάνω του ένα παρεκκλήσι, την «Αγία Θεοτόκου Ολ-Τσαρίτσα». Στο παρεκκλήσι αυτό υπάρχει αντίγραφο της θαυματουργής εικόνας της Αγίας εικόνας της Παναγίας, το πρωτότυπο της οποίας βρίσκεται στο Βατοπέδι. Ενδιαφέρον γεγονός. Όταν οι μοναχοί συγκέντρωσαν δωρεές για την ανέγερση του μοναστηριού, οι άνθρωποι από τα γύρω χωριά ανταποκρίθηκαν μαζικά και ο καθένας πρόσφερε ό,τι μπορούσε, παρόλο που είναι κατά κύριο λόγο μουσουλμάνοι. Γι' αυτό, σε ένδειξη ευγνωμοσύνης, κατόπιν αιτήματος του ηγούμενου της μονής και με την άδεια της μονής Βατοπεδίου, επιτρέπεται στις μουσουλμάνες από τα γύρω χωριά να προσεύχονται μπροστά στην εικόνα της Παναγίας. Η εικόνα είναι διάσημη ως πραγματικά θαυματουργή και βοηθά όποιον προσεύχεται ειλικρινά. Το μέρος είναι δημοφιλές μεταξύ των ντόπιων και των τουριστών. Ο χώρος στάθμευσης μπροστά από το μοναστήρι δεν μένει άδειος ούτε τις καθημερινές.

The icon is famous as truly miraculous, and helps anyone who sincerely prays. The place is popular among locals and tourists. The parking lot in front of the monastery does not remain empty even on weekdays.
