Skrytka została założona z okazji 50-lecia Stacji Polarnej UMK na Spitsbergenie. Oraz opublikowana przy okazji obchodzonego na UMK Dnia Polarnego 17 marca 2025 roku.
Stacja Polarna UMK jest najdalej wysuniętym na północ polskim ośrodkiem badawczym. znajduje się na nadmorskiej równinie Kaffiøyra, położonej w północno-zachodniej części Spitsbergenu, największej wyspy Archipelagu Svalbard[5]. Równina Kawowa zajmuje powierzchnię około 310 km2. Mimo, iż nizina Kaffiøyry mierzy zaledwie 14 km długości i 4 km szerokości, to w jej rejonie zlokalizowanych jest siedem lodowców[3] dolinnych (Waldemar, Irena, Agnor, Eliza, Eivind, Andreas, Olivier) oraz dwa lodowce wypustowe (Aavatsmark oraz Dahl)[0].
Od początku istnienia Stacji odbyły się do niej ponad pięćdziesiąt wypraw naukowych. Udział w nich [1]wzięli nie tylko naukowcy, doktoranci i studenci, ale również alpiniści, speleolodzy oraz płetwonurkowie. Stacja to miejsce pracy przede wszystkim pracowników[6] Uniwersytetu Mikołaja Kopernika, głównie geografów i biologów. W wielu ekspedycjach brali udział naukowcy z innych polskich i zagranicznych ośrodków. Trudno wymienić wszystkie osoby, które przebywały i pracowały w Stacji Polarnej UMK. Jest to wielka grupa przyjaciół, która wiele miesięcy swojego życia postanowiła[3] poświęcić pasji i badaniom w Arktyce[0].
Dominującym[1] elementem środowiska regionu Kaffiøyry są lodowce. Od XIX wieku ich powierzchnia uległa zmniejszeniu o blisko połowę
. Określenie przebiegu i przyczyn zmian zasięgu lodowców jest aktualnie jednym z głównych problemów badawczych[3]. Stacja Polarna UMK uczestniczy (stanowiąc ich ważną część) w programach[3] międzynarodowych m.in. CALM (Circumarctic Active Layer Monitoring), WGMS (World Glacier Monitoring Services).
W Stacji Polarnej UMK[7] prowadzone są badania:
- współczesnych zmian kriosfery,
- glacjologiczne na lodowcach regionu Kaffiøyry, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem ich bilansu masy,
- zmian i dynamiki lodowców,[9]
- struktury hydrotermicznej lodowców,
- ablacji (topnienia) lodowców,
- akumulacji pokrywy śnieżnej na lodowcach,
- hydrologiczne odpływu z lodowców i reżimu rzek lodowcowych,
- zjawiska szarży lodowców,
- współczesnych procesów brzegowych,
- geomorfologiczne obszaru oraz bezpośredniego przedpola lodowców,
- klimatyczne i pomiary[6] meteorologiczne,
- nad wieloletnią zmarzliną, będące częścią międzynarodowego programu CALM,
- biologiczne i zoologiczne.

The geocache was created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Nicolaus Copernicus University (NCU) Polar Station on Spitsbergen. It was also published in connection with the Polar Day celebrated at NCU on March 17, 2025.
The NCU Polar Station is the northernmost Polish research facility. It is located on the coastal plain of Kaffiøyra, situated in the northwestern part of Spitsbergen, the largest island of the Svalbard Archipelago[5]. The Kaffiøyra Plain covers an area of approximately 310 km⊃2;. Although the lowland of Kaffiøyra is only 14 km long and 4 km wide, it is home to seven[3] valley glaciers (Waldemar, Irena, Agnor, Eliza, Eivind, Andreas, Olivier) and two outlet glaciers (Aavatsmark and Dahl)[0].
Since the establishment of the Station, more than fifty scientific expeditions have taken place there. These expeditions have included not only [1]scientists, PhD students, and university students but also mountaineers, speleologists, and divers. The station primarily serves as a workplace for researchers from Nicolaus Copernicus University, mainly geographers[6] and biologists. Many expeditions have also included scientists from other Polish and international research institutions. It is difficult to list all the people who have stayed and worked at the NCU Polar Station. They form a large community of friends[3] who have dedicated many months of their lives to their passion for research in the Arctic.
Glaciers are the dominant environmental feature of the Kaffiøyra region. Since the 19th[0] century, their surface area[1] has decreased by nearly half. Determining the course and causes of glacier retreat is currently one of the key research challenges. The NCU Polar Station plays a significant[3] role in international research programs, including CALM (Circumarctic Active Layer Monitoring) and WGMS (World Glacier Monitoring Services)[3].
At the NCU Polar Station, research is focused on:
- contemporary changes in the cryosphere,
- glaciological studies of the glaciers in the Kaffiøyra region, with particular emphasis on their mass balance,[7]
- glacier changes and dynamics,
- hydrothermal structure of glaciers,
- glacier ablation (melting),
- snow cover accumulation on glaciers,
- hydrology of[9] glacier runoff and the regime of glacial rivers,
- glacier surges,
- contemporary coastal processes,
- geomorphology of the area and the immediate glacier forefield,
- climate studies and meteorological[6] measurements,
- permafrost monitoring as part of the international CALM program,
- biological and zoological research.
