The distinctive Flat Iron building stood at the intersection of Market and Genesee Streets in downtown Auburn, New York.
The Flat Iron Building was constructed in 1849 on the site of the Center House Tavern. It was a prominent commercial stone structure in Auburn's business district. Over the years it housed many enterprises, including a tavern, music store, meat market, and tailor shops.
However, even the Flat Iron Building's inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places could not save it from demolition. It fell to urban renewal in the 1970s.
The Genesee Beer sign, an historic element of Auburn's skyline, still looks down at where the Flat Iron building once dominated.
