This is one of a series of caches that are associated with the local history with a focus on our family.
The history of the road to the National Monument started in 1912 with the construction of the Serpents Trail (now a hiking trail) on the other side of the Monument. This took about 9 years to complete.
Construction on the Scenic (now Rimrock Drive) part of the road started in 1931. William Crockett Allen started hauling water for the project about that time and continued about 5 or 6 years. He helped with the recovery of some of the men after the half Tunnel construction incident in late 1932 where 9 men were killed.
The road was completed in 1950.
Please enjoy the scenic Rimrock Drive, take your time at the may pull outs.
