Suzhou Creek (苏州河, or Soochow Creek), aka Wusong River, is a river that passes through the Shanghai city center. It is named after the neighboring city of Suzhou (Soochow). One of the principal outlets of Lake Tai, the Suzhou Creek is 125km long and flows into the Huangpu River at the Bund. The Suzhou Creek Waterfront Public Space (苏州河滨水公共空间) project was basically completed by the end of 2020. After renovation, the 42km shoreline along the Suzhou Creek in the central urban area has been opened to the public, providing space for public activities such as sightseeing, cultural communication, sports and fitness, leisure and entertainment.
Man Garden (漫花园) has no connection to the word “man” in English. In Chinese, the character "漫" (màn) originally meant "water overflowing," later evolving to symbolize "unrestrained" and "free". Man Garden is a newly built street garden along the Suzhou Creek with a mixture of open layout and natural landscape. The character "漫" in its name resonates with the action of "strolling" while also conveying the tranquility of "slow living," encouraging people to slow down in the bustling city and savor the serene harmony between nature and culture.
