Geocache Description:

Welcome to the Fall Fest 2025 81 Grid Series

This series will offer a variety of DT ratings throughout Brantford and Brant County - be prepared for almost anything. They are being placed for GCAX1X1 Fall Fest 2025, but are not part of the GeoChallenge and are NOT challenge caches. Some will be park and grabs, while others will involve longer hikes or TOTTs. Please check the descriptions and attributes for each cache and do not attempt anything outside of your comfort zone. These caches are being placed to appeal to a wide variety of caching levels and abilities.

If you do not have the patience to properly retrieve and sign this cache, please skip it or leave it for another day. You must sign the log to claim the find.

The cache IS located at the posted coordinates. It should be easy to spot, but a tool or two will be needed to retrieve it. Timing is everything here - if there are cars parked nearby, you will likely need to come back.

When the lights come on at the rink and the sound of skates carves through the ice, you know it’s Hockey Night in Brantford. For generations, this community has gathered in arenas, living rooms, and backyards to cheer for the game that is so deeply woven into our Canadian identity. From small-town rinks to the grand stage of the NHL, Brantford and Brant County have produced more than their share of hockey heroes—you could say we’re always playing shorthanded when it comes to bragging rights.

No story of Brantford hockey would be complete without Wayne Gretzky, “The Great One.” Raised right here, Wayne’s backyard rink was the training ground for his journey to NHL greatness, and his legacy continues to inspire. But he’s not the only one who lit the lamp. Syl Apps, born in Paris, Ontario, captained the Toronto Maple Leafs and left a legacy as one of the classiest players in hockey history. Chris Gratton, another Brantford native, played over 1,000 NHL games and was known as a dependable center who could really throw his weight around in the corners. And don’t forget Adam Henrique, still making highlight reels with his clutch goals, or Brandon Montour, the smooth-skating defenseman from Six Nations who hoisted the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers in 2024.

With so many stars coming from this region, it’s clear Brant County knows how to keep their stick on the ice. The frozen ponds, backyard rinks, and local arenas here have always been more than just sheets of ice—they’ve been training grounds for dreams. Every young player who ties their skates can imagine following in the footsteps of their heroes, chasing the puck from home ice all the way to the NHL.

So as you search for this cache, picture yourself in overtime with the game on the line. Will you dig it out of the corner, skate hard to the net, and score the find? Don’t let this one slip through your five-hole—the crowd’s on its feet, and it’s time for you to take your best shot. After all, in Brant County, every night could be hockey night.
