This movie has been one of my favorites for a long time, although it is rated "R". I would not recommend this movie to everyone. I went through Marine Corps Recruit Training at Parris Island, South Carolina in 1978 and the first half of the movie brings back some vivid memories! R. Lee Ermey plays the Drill Instructor, and he was an actual DI at Parris Island before he became an actor. He does an outstanding job.
Full Metal Jacket is a 1987 war film directed and produced by Stanley Kubrick from a screenplay he co-wrote with Michael Herr and Gustav Hasford. It stars Matthew Modine, R. Lee Ermey, Vincent D'Onofrio, Adam Baldwin, Dorian Harewood, and Arliss Howard.
The storyline follows a platoon of U.S. Marines through their boot camp training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina. The first half of the film focuses primarily on privates J.T. Davis and Leonard Lawrence, nicknamed "Joker" and "Pyle" respectively, who struggle under their abusive drill instructor, Gunnery Sergeant Hartman. The second half portrays the experiences of Joker and other Marines in the Vietnamese cities of Da Nang and Huế during the Tet Offensive of the Vietnam War.The film's title refers to the full metal jacket bullet used by military servicemen. Parking is available in a parking lot about 1/8 of a mile from GZ. If you choose to park there, you'll be walking on a paved path until you're within 100 feet of the cache. There is a fairly easy bushwack involved, but the approach to GZ could be muddy if it has rained recently. Also, be on the lookout for critters, poison ivy and ticks, depending upon the season. Once you get to GZ, it could be a fairly quick find for some geocachers, but I wouldn't say that it's easy. It might not be in the first place you look! It is available 24/7, but be alert and careful if caching at night. I recommend looking for this during daylight hours only.
If you haven't found the others in the MAGC series, they are all fairly close by, so I hope you take the time to check them out.
