La cache fa parte della serie Produzioni ininterrotte, progetto di valorizzazione della memoria del lavoro che vi porterà ad immaginare storie del territorio bergamasco ormai scomparse (o quasi) che hanno lasciato delle tracce nascoste
Percorrendo la provinciale in val Seriana, all’altezza di Gromo San Marino, frazione di Gandellino, non si può non notare la centrale idroelettrica: l’edificio, composto da due corpi di fabbrica, è un pregevole esempio di archeologia industriale, caratterizzato da uno stile neogotico e dall’utilizzo di pietra naturale ricavata sul posto.
Questa centrale idroelettrica fu realizzata nel 1920 dalla società Crespi e C. di Benigno Crespi, un nome che forse avrete già sentito nominare in relazione al villaggio operaio di Crespi d’Adda; non è un caso, infatti Benigno era fratello del fondatore di Crespi d’Adda, e anche lui era un imprenditore.
In val Seriana aveva già un cotonificio a Nembro, e proprio per fornire energia al suo stabilimento fece costruire questa centrale idroelettrica ( primo nucleo della futura Azienda elettrica Crespi e C.) che, alimentata dalle acque del fiume Serio, disponeva di una linea di trasmissione tra Gromo e Nembro di 40.000 volt, tra le più potenti allora in Europa.
La centrale risulta al momento tuttora in funzione.
Non lasciatevi sfuggire l’occasione di osservare un vero esempio di archeologia industriale, apprezzate la particolarità e la maestosità di questo edificio, e notate sulla vostra destra gli enormi componenti come turbine e trasformatori.
Dopo questa immersione nel mondo industriale, potete concentrarvi su un’altra caratteristica del luogo dove vi trovate: la natura. Anche se sembrano mondi in antitesi tra loro, la produzione di energia nelle centrali idroelettriche li lega in modo indissolubile, la forza dell’acqua e l’ingegno dell’uomo.
Il fiume Serio scorre accanto a voi, le montagne vi circondano e alla vostra sinistra parte un sentiero attraverso il bosco alle spalle della centrale, dove potete fare una passeggiata e ammirare tutto questo.

Driving along the provincial road in Val Seriana, near Gromo San Marino, a hamlet of Gandellino, you cannot fail to notice the hydroelectric power station: the building, made up of two parts, is a valuable example of industrial archaeology, characterized by a neo-Gothic style and the use of natural stone of the place.
This hydroelectric power plant was built in 1920 by the Crespi e C. company of Benigno Crespi, a name that you may know in relation to the workers' village of Crespi d'Adda; it is no coincidence, in fact Benigno was the brother of the founder of Crespi d'Adda, and he also was an entrepreneur.
In the Seriana valley he already had a cotton mill in Nembro, and he had this hydroelectric power plant built (the first nucleus of the future Crespi e C. electrical company) in order to supply energy to his factory. The power plant, powered by the waters of the Serio river, was linked to a transmission line between Gromo and Nembro of 40,000 volts, among the most powerful in Europe at the time. The plant is still in operation.
Don't miss the opportunity to admire a true example of industrial archaeology, appreciate the particularity and majesty of this building, and notice the enormous components such as turbines and transformers on your right.
After this immersion in the industrial world, you can focus on another feature of the place where you are: nature. Even if they seem antithetical worlds, they have an inextricable bond due to the production of energy in hydroelectric power plants, made possible by the power of water and the cleverness of humankind.The Serio river flows next to you, and you are surrounded by the mountains. On your left there is a path through the woods behind the power station, where you can take a walk and admire the landscape.
