The Left Bund (杨浦滨江) is the riverside area along the 15.5km waterfront of Huangpu River in Yangpu District. It is known as the birthplace of China's modern industries with the nation's first water, electricity, shipbuilding and textile companies. Many of the industrial buildings, such as the iconic Yangshupu Power Plant, have been preserved during the redevelopment of the riverside region.
The British registered the Shanghai Waterworks Co., Ltd. in London in 1880, and purchased the land by the Huangpu River to build a water plant, Yangshupu Waterworks (杨树浦水厂). The water plant was completed in 1883 to officially supply water to the public, marking the birth of China's first modern waterworks. The existing old buildings of Yangshupu Waterworks, which have become a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level, were designed by J.W. Hart in traditional British style. Being the starting point of urban water supply in modern China, the Yangshupu Waterworks witnessed and promoted the development and progress of Shanghai. Even nowadays, the waterworks still accounts for a quarter of Shanghai's total water supply. Century-old as the waterworks is, it is still full of vitality.

The GZ is the wooden floor jetty outside the Yangshupu Waterworks. There are several benches alongside the jetty. The magnetic cache (a 5cm tube) is attached under the bench.
