Why the name Mayfield? Well, that was the originial name for Glenfield--
Before the Auckland Harbour Bridge opened in 1959 Glenfield was a market garden and farming area servicing the needs of Auckland City. It was originally called Mayfield, a name chosen by the community when manuka in bloom reminded them of springtime ‘back home’ in England.
A Mayfield further south in Canterbury meant that this Mayfield was never given postal recognition. On 11 March, 1912 both the postal bureau and the area were officially called Glenfield.
