Geocache Description:

About SideTracked Caches

This geocache belongs to the SideTracked series that is popular in the UK and throughout the world. The first cache was placed on the 10th August, 2007, and is now spreading around the world. It is designed to be a relatively quick cache find around train stations for travellers but, of course, anyone else can find it too! More Information about the series can be found at the SideTracked Series

Dundas

The area was originally known as “The Ponds” and this is still retained in The Ponds Creek Walk, an excellent walk from Carlingford to the Parramatta River through a unique ecosystem containing remnants of flora and fauna found in the area as early as 1789.

The name Dundas has been associated with the area since 1796 when Samuel Marsden named his local farm Dundas in honour of Scottish lord, Henry Dundas.

About Dundas Station

A railway act passed in 1893 authorised that a private railway, to be known as Simpson's Railway, be built from Rosehill to Carlingford. It was to carry produce from the north-west farms to markets in the Parramatta area. The railway opened in 1896 with the station here being known as Kissing Point Road. By 1901 due to financial troubles the NSW Government Railways took over the line and renamed the station Dundas.

Dundas Station was the last privately built and owned station in New South Wales. It is Heritage listed so after a severe fire in 2006 was rebuilt in the original design.

The original Carlingford Railway line (Simpsons Railway) was closed in January, 2020 and was then converted to the L4 Carlingford to Westmead Light Rail Network which opened on the 20th December, 2024.
