The Lebold Mansion was built by Abilene banker C. H. Lebold in 1880. This beautiful Victorian home was built over the original "dugout" dwelling of Abilene founders Timothy and Elizabeth Hersey. The dugout is still part of the basement structure and lies directly below the homes main tower. Fun fact - the first settler child in Kansas was reported to have been born in the dugout.
