Το «Ακόντισμα» είναι γνωστό και με το όνομα «Ερκοντρόμα». Ήταν αρχαίος μακεδονικός οικισμός, κοντά στα σύνορα με τη Θράκη. Βρισκόταν στην ακτή του Αιγαίου και χρησίμευε για τη φύλαξη της αρχαίας Εγνατίας οδού.
Η πολιτική άνοδος της μακεδονικής δυναστείας καθόρισε και το μέλλον του φρουρίου. Από έναν απλό σταθμό ασφαλείας, το φρούριο μετατράπηκε σε μεγάλη πόλη. Στην κορυφή του λόφου υψώνονται ισχυρά τείχη φρουρίου. Κάτω από αυτά αναπτύσσεται μια πόλη με ναούς για τους θεούς και ένα αμφιθέατρο όπου γίνονται παραστάσεις.
Το φρούριο συνέχισε να υπάρχει κατά τη ρωμαϊκή περίοδο, και στη συνέχεια έγινε αναπόσπαστο τμήμα της επικράτειας της Βυζαντινής Αυτοκρατορίας. Εγκαταλείφθηκε μόνο μετά την κατάκτηση αυτών των εδαφών από τους Οθωμανούς Τούρκους.
Επί του παρόντος, ένα παραθεριστικό χωριό έχει χτιστεί στη βάση του λόφου. Κοντά στον οικισμό χτίστηκε εκκλησία, ανακατασκευή αρχαίου ναού και αμφιθεάτρου.

"Akontisma" is also known by the name "Herkontroma". It was an ancient Macedonian settlement, near the border with Thrace. It was located on the Aegean Sea coast and served to guard the ancient Via Egnatia road.
The political rise of the Macedonian dynasty also determined the future of the fortress. From a simple security post, the fortress turned into a large city. Powerful fortress walls rose on the top of the hill. Below them, a city developed with temples of the gods and an amphitheater, where performances were held.
The fortress continued to exist during the Roman era, and then it was an integral part of the territory of the Byzantine Empire. It was abandoned only after the conquest of these territories by the Ottoman Turks.
At present, a holiday village has been built at the base of the hill. A church has been built next to the village, as well as a reconstruction of an ancient temple and amphitheater.
