In piazza Garibaldi, unica piazzetta di sestiere ancora integra, sorge la Chiesa di San Francesco costruita nel 1603, anno di posa della prima pietra del Duomo Dogale.
L’edificio, di dimensioni ridotte e dotato di una pianta ottagonale, fu realizzato a fianco dell’annesso convento dei frati minori Conventuali, la cui costruzione era iniziata pochi anni prima, nel 1598. Durante la dominazione francese (1807) la chiesa fu convertita ad usi militari, divenendo una polveriera, mentre gli spazi del convento furono utilizzati come depositi di generi alimentari. Gli altari e le tombe furono così smantellati, mentre molti degli arredi e delle opere d’arte si persero per sempre. Solo nel 1918 la chiesa venne riaperta al culto, mentre l’ex convento fu ceduto a privati.

In Garibaldi Square, only little square of sestiere still intact, stands the Church of San Francesco built in 1603, when the first stone of the Dogal Cathedral was laid. The building, small in size and with an octagonal plan, was built next to the adjoining convent of the Conventual friars, whose construction had begun a few years earlier, in 1598.
During the French domination (1807) the church was converted for military use, becoming a storage for powder, while the spaces of the convent were used as food stores. The altars and the tombs were so dismantled, while many of the furnishings and works of art were lost. Only in 1918 the church was reopened for worship, while the former convent was sold to private individuals.
