Il Museo sul Confine nasce a Visco, nella sede dell’Ex Dogana austriaca, segno tangibile del confine che dal 1866 al 1915 divise il Regno d’Italia dall’Impero asburgico. Il Primo conflitto mondiale coinvolse Visco già nell’estate 1914, quando molti suoi uomini partirono con l’esercito austro-ungarico per i lontani fronti della Serbia e della Galizia. Nel maggio del 1915, con lo scoppio della guerra italo-austriaca, il paese venne occupato in forze dall’Esercito italiano e divenne retrovia del fronte del Carso. L'edificio della Dogana divenne sede di uffici sanitari del vicino grande ospedale per feriti e colerosi militari e civili, edificato nelle vicinanze prima su tende poi su baracche in legno su basi di cemento. Nel dopoguerra le strutture dell’ospedale, ulteriormente ampliate nell’area di Borgo Piave, ospitarono una caserma, un magazzino d'artiglieria e una fabbrica di proiettili e filo spinato. Nella Seconda guerra mondiale, dopo l’invasione italiana della Jugoslavia (1941), da febbraio a settembre 1943, l’area ospita un campo di internamento per civili sloveni e croati.

Recentemente restaurato, l’edificio dell'ex Dogana austriaca ospita Il Musco sul Confine, sede polivalente che presenta storia e immagini del paese di Visco, sale riservate alle mostre temporanee, un’ampia sala conferenze con videoproiezione e un’aula didattica.

Per trovare le coordinate finali della cache recatevi al primo waypoint e troverete un pannello informativo riguardo l'ospedale della croce rossa italiana presente qui durante la prima guerra mondiale e trovate i seguenti valori:

Dopodichè spostatevi al waypoint 2 (Termine di confine) dove sono ancora presenti i vecchi cippi di confine tra Italia e Austria prima della prima guerra mondiale e trovate i seguenti valori:

• D = la terza cifra dell'anno del cippo n. 48
• E = la terza cifra dell'anno di inizio del regno Illirico
• F = la prima cifra del numero della stele con la scritta "AUSTRIA"

The Border Museum was born in Visco, in the former Austrian Customs House, a tangible sign of the border that from 1866 to 1915 divided the Kingdom of Italy from the Habsburg Empire. After the war, the hospital facilities, further expanded in the Borgo Piave area, housed a barracks, an artillery warehouse and a factory producing bullets and barbed wire. In the Second World War, after the Italian invasion of Yugoslavia (1941), from February to September 1943, the area hosted an internment camp for Slovenian and Croatian civilians.

Recently restored, the building of the former Austrian Customs is home to Il Musco sul Confine, a multipurpose venue that presents the history and images of the town of Visco, rooms reserved for temporary exhibitions, a large conference room with video projection and a classroom.
