This geocache has been placed to highlight and celebrate the work of the Long Gully Neighbourhood Centre. (LGNC)
LGNC is a non-profit organisation governed by a voluntary Committee of Governance comprised mostly of community members, and managed on a day to day basis by a Centre Coordinator. The Centre commenced operations in 1984, then known as the Long Gully Community House, which provided a place for the new Sparrowhawk Housing Estate residents to meet, access information, and run activities.
The Centre provides services and offers a range of activities to the Long Gully Community as well as the wider City of Greater Bendigo. The LGNC plays an important role in providing opportunities through training, programs, activities, events, and projects.
The centre caters for individuals of all abilities and those who are vulnerable and experiencing disadvantage. Its flexibility and creativity allow it to be inclusive and to connect people socially. LGNC’s active engagement is modelled on the principles of community development through community participation, community ownership, empowerment, lifelong learning, inclusion, access and equity, social action, advocacy, networking and self-help.
