Lydon Oval is the homeground for Dudley Redhead FC and Dudley Magpies RLFC. It sits at the edge of the site of the old Dudley Colliery. The Colliery was the site of Australia's deadliest mining accident. The inquiry into the disaster paved the way for many worker protections for miners and set a new precedent for care of labourers in Australia.
