Geocache Description:

THE GULF OF

FINLAND

This wherigo-cache will show you a remote place in the Gulf of Finland. Prepare a lot of time when going for this cache, you will need a good boat to get to the starting location. The cache itself is no biggie, a plastic container near the water.

THE GULF OF FINLAND
The Gulf of Finland forms the easternmost arm of the Baltic Sea. Stretching between Finland to the north and Estonia to the south, it reaches eastward to Saint Petersburg—the second-largest city in Russia—where the Neva River flows into it. Other major cities along its shores include Helsinki and Tallinn. The gulf’s eastern section lies within Russia, home to several key oil ports such as Primorsk. Serving as the maritime route to Saint Petersburg, the Gulf of Finland holds significant strategic value for Russia. Some of the Baltic Sea’s most severe environmental issues are particularly evident in the gulf’s shallow waters. There have also been proposals for a Helsinki–Tallinn undersea tunnel crossing the gulf.
