The Bland Ministry Center (BMC) began under the direction of Dr. Marshall Walker with his vision to serve the physical and spiritual needs of Southwest Virginia and Southern West Virginia. Established by the East River Baptist Association as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, its roots trace back to 1980, when community leaders recognized the need for accessible resources in this rural region. Over the decades, BMC has grown to addresses poverty, health, and socioeconomic challenges for families across the region which include over 15 counties. The center provides a food pantry, clothing ministry, and modern dental clinics—including a mobile school-based oral health program. Volunteer teams complete home repair and accessibility projects in nearby communities. Partnerships with local agencies also ensure school supplies and Christmas gifts reach Bland County children each year.
