Geocache Description:

Join us in the beautiful Ashdown Forest at the Camp Hill trigpoint, to celebrate the one year anniversary since the YOSM series was (re-) introduced.

The event will run at the trigpoint for half an hour beginning at 7:30pm and concluding at 8pm. It takes place on Good Friday, the 18th April, the anniversary date of the series. It is also the 89th anniversary of the trigpoint itself. It was on the 18th of April 1936 when a group of surveyors gathered around a white concrete pillar in a field in Cold Ashby and began the re-triangulation of Great Britain. Sunset this evening will be at 8pm, so we may get a glimpse of it as we conclude, should it be a nice evening.

Being keen on hill walking, I have tried to support the reintroduction of the YOSM and I am currently the highest individual placer of YOSMs now having 70 hides at trigpoints. Statistically I'm second behind the trigopolists, but the trigopolists do consist of more than one person. It seemed appropriate that I should therefore host an anniversary event to continue to help spread the word and help the series grow. As I will be in the area at the time of the anniversary, I have chosen this trigpoint as it should be a scenic place for a little celebration.

It is five minutes walk (0.3 of a mile) from the nearest car park. The Ashdown Forest is owned by a charity, and they do charge for car parking now, please see the waypoints. There looks to be a small layby below the trigpoint that might be free, but I can't be sure on roadside parking here. Please come along and join us for a little geochat and trig talk. Who knows, we may even bring cake...

About Ye Ole Survey Monuments

Ye Ole Survey Monument (YOSM) is a captivating series of caches that pays homage to the remarkable legacy of OutForTheHunt's YSM series (GC45CC).

YOSM caches are strategically positioned at or near Trig Points. These triangulation stations have played a pivotal role as surveying landmarks, contributing to the mapping of expansive territories.

Some of these points, bearing historical significance, might now be situated on private land or have vanished with time. As a result, the caches are artfully placed in close proximity, reverently acknowledging the historical importance of these survey monuments.

More information, bookmarks and statistics can be found at the YOSM Website

If anybody would like to expand the Ye Ole Survey Monuments Series, please do.
I would ask that you request a number for your cache first at www.yosm.org.uk
so we can keep track of the numbers and names to avoid duplication.
