Geocache Description:

Geocachers call May 2nd "Blue Switch Day" because on that day in 2000, the U.S. government lifted the Selective Availability restriction on GPS technology, making it more accurate and accessible for everyone, which paved the way for the development of geocaching.

The Legacy: This event is considered the birth of geocaching.

The First Cache: Dave Ulmer, a computer consultant, placed the first geocache (then called a "GPS stash") in Beavercreek, Oregon, on May 3rd.

The Purpose: Ulmer's goal was to test the accuracy of the newly available GPS technology.

The Location: The location was posted on the Usenet newsgroup sci. geo. satellite-nav.

The First Finders: Mike Teague was the first person to find the first geocache.

There are many caches that were published in the year 2018. Literally thousands. There are over 550 in the Dfw area. A few in the Plano area:

Back to School 04/05: Plano Senior High School  Hidden:01/12/2018

Quick Cache at the Trac   Hidden:11/15/2018

Cats in Trees #1 - Fiesty  Hidden:12/31/2018

Have you found any of these?

In celebration of the upcoming anniversary of blue switch day, a new geocache will be published every day, one for each year. You are looking for a 3D printed container. Log only. Please bring a pen.
