Crofton Woods has a variety of local names, and this cache is located in an area known as Sparrow Wood where coppiced hazel is found alongside mature oak trees, silver birch and holly. Coppiced glades provide nesting sites and food for small birds and mammals such as wood mice, which are themselves food for larger creatures, such as the tawny owl. Plant species found in Sparrow Wood, such as blue bells, wood anemones and midland hawthorn tell us that these woods have been here a long time.

In respect of oak trees, in the UK these are known to support more than 2,300 different species, including birds, mammals, fungi, invertebrates, bryophytes, and lichens, making them a haven for a wide variety of wildlife. While you probably won't find that number on a single tree, it does mean that oaks are associated with a greater biodiversity than any other native tree.
Regarding this cache, you are looking for a small plastic container at ground level.
Permission for cache placement in the SSSI has been obtained from Natural England and the Senior Ranger and Site manager.
